Busy Times

I went for my echo last Tuesday and the results weren't great. Go figure. 🙄 My GLS score increased so the onco cardiologist called and set a follow-up appointment for last Thursday. I went in and they basically said there's some heart damage from chemo, which we already knew, but she wanted to get lab work to check two things before deciding how to proceed. I had to run over to the radiation oncologist at 4pm to see if my burns were infected so she asked me to stop by the lab on my way out. Luckily, the burns weren't infected, just weeping so the nurse there sent me to the pharmacy to pick up a soak.

The lab was a disaster. The first phlebotomist tried twice and couldn't get a vein so she got another phlebotomist. He said he was the king of rolling veins and then he got in the first time, but must not have been positioned quite right because he only got half a tube and then the flow stopped as he was celebrating. He tried again in the same spot and two more times in another spot before he decided that he couldn't get it. 🙄

I called the next day and scheduled an appointment with the port lab and went yesterday to get the blood work the onco cardiologist wanted so we'll see how that comes back. I'm guessing they'll adjust my meds, but hoping they don't delay my next chemo. I don't really want to do more, but I want to for the benefits of course. I'll probably feel better mentally being on active treatment again. I've been nervous the last couple weeks that I'm not doing anything to prevent a recurrence.

I went back to work last week and had a parade of people through my office. I've really missed everyone and they were excited to see me back. ❤️  I had a good conversation with a driver who had cancer at 29 and he understood all the things and about the nervousness of not being in treatment. He's 10 years out and said sometimes he'll feel something in his neck and that's immediately where his mind goes still. I figure I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I've been pretty tired in the evenings, but able to relax after dinner. Rhys overrides my cooking on the nights I'm really tired and I just rest until it's time for bed.

Friday night we went to Billy and Jaleasa's to watch Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2. I may have fallen asleep and I'll have to rewatch for sure, but my charcuterie board was the bomb!

On Saturday, Cade set another PR (personal record) on Franklin's course, which ironically was Christian's worst time. When Christian ran there several years ago, they ran the girls and boys together. A girl injured her foot and Christian stayed back so he could help her limp to the finish. They ended up with a time of about 40 minutes, but we were so proud of him. Now Cade has cracked his PR on his last race of the season at the same course and we've got another proud parent moment! ❤️

After the meet, Rhys and I went north to meet a puppy. Most of you know that I've been applying to adopt from shelters and rescues for the last 3-4 months with no luck. I don't usually even get a response, but when I do, they say there's a mileage radius or they have a specific clinic I have to go to that's 150 miles away. Rhys finally found us a Maltipoo puppy and he's the cutest thing ever! ❤️ He's 8.5 weeks old and 2.38 pounds right now. He'll be about double that size when he's full grown. Last night we went through all the names we threw in the hat and decided on Niko. According to one site, it means stealthy ninja (since he's all black) and according to another, it means good-natured, loving, brave, resilient companion.

TODAY'S SILVER LINING:‌ Niko and I went on a walk when I got home from work and then we taught him how to sit. He picks up on stuff super fast. 🙂
